The designs is rooted in the local wildlife, planting and heritage of the area. The initial inspiration came from the biodiversity features already incorporated into the development plans, including hedgehog domes, bat boxes and wildflower meadow planting. As both hedgehogs and bats are most active at night, this naturally led to a theme celebrating local nocturnal wildlife.
The artwork features a variety of creatures, including pipistrelle bats, moths, hedgehogs, foxes, rabbits, beetles, slugs, snails and earthworms. The planting scheme is also reflected in the design, incorporating buttercups, yarrow, burnet-saxifrage (Pimpinella saxifraga), dandelions and wild strawberries.
The composition of the gates celebrates the many layers of life, from the skies above to the soil below. Wildflowers attract pollinating insects and moths, which support bats and other wildlife. Hedgehogs rely on earthworms and beetles for food, while earthworms enrich the soil and help plants grow. Every plant and animal plays a role in helping biodiversity thrive, highlighting the interconnected relationships that exist within healthy ecosystems.  The design uses pattern to give a nod to the heritage history of the area.
Gates are located just off Liff Road.  Commissioned by Abertay Housing Association.
